History
Officially, the library was launched in 1971. Its initial holdings incorporated 6,500 volumes of the Belarusian Catholic Mission in England Library (established in 1948, since 1958 — Bibliotheca Alboruthena). The initial holdings included the collection of the Belarusian Catholic Mission and the books of three Belarusian Greek Catholic priests — Ceslaus Sipovich, Leo Haroshka and Alexander Nadson.
The library has organised several international seminars and conferences in Belarusian studies.

Famous quotes containing the word history:
“History is more or less bunk. Its tradition. We dont want tradition. We want to live in the present and the only history that is worth a tinkers damn is the history we make today.”
—Henry Ford (18631947)
“Every generation rewrites the past. In easy times history is more or less of an ornamental art, but in times of danger we are driven to the written record by a pressing need to find answers to the riddles of today.... In times of change and danger when there is a quicksand of fear under mens reasoning, a sense of continuity with generations gone before can stretch like a lifeline across the scary present and get us past that idiot delusion of the exceptional Now that blocks good thinking.”
—John Dos Passos (18961970)
“The history of this country was made largely by people who wanted to be left alone. Those who could not thrive when left to themselves never felt at ease in America.”
—Eric Hoffer (19021983)
