Frame (artificial Intelligence) - Frame Structure

Frame Structure

The frame contains information on how to use the frame, what to expect next, and what to do when these expectations are not met. Some information in the frame is generally unchanged while other information, stored in "terminals," usually change. Different frames may share the same terminals.

Each piece of information about a particular frame is held in a slot. The information can contain:

  • Facts or Data
    • Values (called facets)
  • Procedures (also called procedural attachments)
    • IF-NEEDED : deferred evaluation
    • IF-ADDED : updates linked information
  • Default Values
    • For Data
    • For Procedures
  • Other Frames or Subframes

Famous quotes containing the words frame and/or structure:

Predictions of the future are never anything but projections of present automatic processes and procedures, that is, of occurrences that are likely to come to pass if men do not act and if nothing unexpected happens; every action, for better or worse, and every accident necessarily destroys the whole pattern in whose frame the prediction moves and where it finds its evidence.
    Hannah Arendt (1906–1975)

Who says that fictions only and false hair
Become a verse? Is there in truth no beauty?
Is all good structure in a winding stair?
May no lines pass, except they do their duty
Not to a true, but painted chair?
    George Herbert (1593–1633)
