Four-eyed Fish - Behavior

Behavior

These fish spend most of their time at the surface of the water. Their diet mostly consists of terrestrial insects which are readily available at the surface, however they may consume other foods such as other invertebrates, diatoms, and small fishes.

These fish will group differently depending on the species. A. anableps commonly congegrates in schools. A. microlepis also is gregarious, but restricts its schools to about a dozen individuals; it is also recorded to be found singly or as couples.

A. anableps is also known for the ability to survive out of water exposed to air, such as during low tide.

Famous quotes containing the word behavior:

No one knows better than children how much they need the authority that protects, that sets the outer limits of behavior with known and prescribed consequences. As one little boy expressed it to his mother, “You care what I do.”
    Leontine Young (20th century)

Consciousness is cerebral celebrity—nothing more and nothing less. Those contents are conscious that persevere, that monopolize resources long enough to achieve certain typical and “symptomatic” effects—on memory, on the control of behavior and so forth.
    Daniel Clement Dennett (b. 1942)

    The abdication of Belief
    Makes the Behavior small—
    Better an ignis fatuus
    Than no illume at all.
    Emily Dickinson (1830–1886)
