Fort Sill Apache Tribe - Lands

Lands

The tribal jurisdictional area, as opposed to a reservation, spans Caddo, Comanche, and Grady Counties in Oklahoma. A private landholder returned four acres of sacred land in Cochise County, Arizona to the tribe, and it is included in their trust lands.

In 2011, the tribe won the right to establish a reservation in New Mexico. They now control 30 acres (12 ha) near Deming, New Mexico.

    There dwelt a man in faire Westmerland,
    Jonnë Armestrong men did him call,

    Israel, and you who call yourself Israel, the Church that calls itself Israel, and the revolt that calls itself Israel, and every nation chosen to be a nation—none of these lands is yours, all of you are thieves of holiness, all of you at war with Mercy.
    Leonard Cohen (b. 1934)

    The river knows the way to the sea;
    Without a pilot it runs and falls,
    Blessing all lands with its charity.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)
