Fort Hamilton High School - Academics

Academics

The graduation rate of the 2008-2009 school year was 89.3% attendance rate. This remains higher than most high schools. In addition, a selective program is currently offered known as the Honors Academy, which is for students who are exceeding school standards in middle school. Most students in this program are challenged by honor and AP classes, allowing them to be more prepared for colleges and look attractive when applying. The school is seen to be overcrowded.

The school also contains very talented students in the Zoned Program, as many of these teenagers end up becoming lawyers, teachers, pharmacists, doctors, journalists, and most of all, athletes. Top students have attended Ivy League schools, including NYU, Cornell, Yale, Harvard, and Columbia, as well as other selective programs such as the Macaulay Honors College of the CUNY schools.

Famous quotes containing the word academics:

Our first line of defense in raising children with values is modeling good behavior ourselves. This is critical. How will our kids learn tolerance for others if our hearts are filled with hate? Learn compassion if we are indifferent? Perceive academics as important if soccer practice is a higher priority than homework?
    Fred G. Gosman (20th century)

Almost all scholarly research carries practical and political implications. Better that we should spell these out ourselves than leave that task to people with a vested interest in stressing only some of the implications and falsifying others. The idea that academics should remain “above the fray” only gives ideologues license to misuse our work.
    Stephanie Coontz (b. 1944)
