Ford Trophy
The New Zealand limited-overs cricket trophy is the main domestic List A limited overs cricket competition in New Zealand. Previous sponsor State Insurance did not renew naming rights in 2009, resulting in the competition being renamed the New Zealand Cricket one-day competition. The competition was renamed the Ford Trophy following a partnership between New Zealand Cricket and Ford Motor Company and 2011.
Since its commencement in 1971/72 the competition has had a number of sponsors, each one exercising its own naming rights. These have been:
- New Zealand Motor Corporation Knock-Out - from 1971/72 to 1976/77
- Gillette Cup - from 1977/78 to 1978/79
- National Knock-Out - from 1979/80 to 1979/80
- Shell Cup - from 1980/81 to 2000/01
- State Shield - from 2001/02 to 2008/09
- Ford Trophy - from 2011/12 onwards
Famous quotes containing the word ford:
“There can only be one Commander-in-Chief. In these times, crises cannot be managed and wars cannot be waged by committee. To the ears of the world, the President speaks for the nation. While he is of course ultimately accountable to Congress, the courts, and the people, he and his emissaries must not be handicapped in advance in their relations with foreign governments as has sometimes happened in the past.”
—Gerald R. Ford (b. 1913)
