Performing Arts- Band, Orchestra, Choir, and Theater

Floyd Central Theater has been recognized by the Educational Theater Association as one of the top five theater programs in the nation. Multiple productions have been selected as main stage productions at the International Thespian Festival and four invitations to represent Indiana at The International Fringe Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Floyd Central Orchestra has been successful at the state, regional, and national levels. They have been selected for each of the last 22 ISSMA State Finals Competitions- the longest such streak in the contest's history. The orchestra won the 1995 ISSMA State Championship, and were runners-up in 1996 and 1998. The orchestra recently was the runner-up in the 2010 National Orchestra Cup competition held at Lincoln Center in New York, NY. Floyd Central's marching band, under director Harold Yankey, has also been quite successful, appearing at the ISSMA state marching band competition in 1987, 1990, 1993, 1994, 1995, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012. The marching band's most successful years have been 1993, 2010, and 2011, when they achieved 6th place. Floyd Central's symphonic band has also been highly recognized, having appeared in many ISSMA state finals competitions. In addition to marching and symphonic band, Floyd Central has a volunteer pep band to play at basketball games, a jazz ensemble, and strong winter percussion/winter guard programs. The music department as a whole has been nationally recognized twice as a Grammy School, being designated as a Grammy Signature Gold Award School in 1998-1999 and as a Grammy Signature School in 2002.
