Proposition 37
In 2012, Flowers Foods contributed $182,000 to a $46 million dollar political campaign known as "The Coalition Against The Costly Food Labeling Proposition, sponsored by Farmers and Food Producers" This organization was set up to oppose a California initiative, Proposition 37, that would have required mandatory labeling of foods containing genetically modified ingredients. There has subsequently been a call for the boycott of products from Flowers and other corporate donors, by the Alliance for Natural Health.
Flowers has made more than 110 acquisitions.
