Flint Symphonic Wind Ensemble - Mission

Mission

The mission of the Flint Symphonic Wind Ensemble (FSWE) is:

  • to provide musical access to both practice and performance for adult musicians and
  • to provide music education and entertainment for the community.

A rehearsal schedule is followed on Tuesday evenings during the school season at Carman-Ainsworth High School, allowing an opportunity for area adult musicians to practice their music with other adult musicians and to enhance their knowledge and appreciation of instrumental music.

Six to ten concert performances are offered to the Greater Flint Area public during each year, providing an opportunity for the community to enjoy instrumental music by seasoned musicians and to increase music appreciation. Some of these are in high schools and middle schools with student musicians joining with FSWE members in performing.

Famous quotes containing the word mission:

Perhaps the mission of those who love mankind is to make people laugh at the truth, to make truth laugh, because the only truth lies in learning to free ourselves from insane passion for the truth.
    Umberto Eco (b. 1932)

I cannot be a materialist—but Oh, how is it possible that a God who speaks to all hearts can let Belgravia go laughing to a vicious luxury, and Whitechapel cursing to a filthy debauchery—such suffering, such dreadful suffering—and shall the short years of Christ’s mission atone for it all?
    —D.H. (David Herbert)

We never can tell how our lives may work to the account of the general good, and we are not wise enough to know if we have fulfilled our mission or not.
    Ellen Henrietta Swallow Richards (1842–1911)
