Flick Family

The Flick family is a wealthy German industrial and political dynasty, heir to an industrial empire that formerly embraced holdings in companies involved in coal, steel and a minority holding in Daimler AG. The Flick family is one of the richest industrial families worldwide.

Friedrich Flick (1883–1972) was the founder of the dynasty, establishing a major industrial conglomerate during the Weimar Republic, and who was one of the world's wealthiest people by the time of his death in 1972. He left his empire to his son Friedrich Karl Flick (1927–2006).

The Friedrich Christian Flick Collection, one of the world's leading modern art collections, is named in honour of Friedrich Christian Flick, an art collector and grandson of Friedrich Flick, and the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition is named for Donatella Flick (née Princess Missikoff).

Famous quotes containing the words flick and/or family:

Cry joy that this witchlike midwife second
Bullies into rough seas you so gentle
And makes with a flick of the thumb and sun
A thundering bullring of your silent and girl-circled island.
    Dylan Thomas (1914–1953)

In the years of the Roman Republic, before the Christian era, Roman education was meant to produce those character traits that would make the ideal family man. Children were taught primarily to be good to their families. To revere gods, one’s parents, and the laws of the state were the primary lessons for Roman boys. Cicero described the goal of their child rearing as “self- control, combined with dutiful affection to parents, and kindliness to kindred.”
    C. John Sommerville (20th century)
