Flag of Transnistria - Future

Future

In 2009, a proposal was discussed in parliament to replace the civil flag (plain red-green-red) with a new flag, carrying three horizontal stripes in the colours white, blue and red, being almost identical to the flag of the Russian Federation, but with different aspect ratio (1:2 instead of Russia's 2:3). The reasons stated for the change of the flag include the desire to create closer ties with Russia, a guarantor of Transnistria's independence from Moldova. In a 2006 referendum, 97.2% of Transnistrians voted in favour increased association with Russia. The new flag would be used alongside the current state flag.

Famous quotes containing the word future:

One merit in Carlyle, let the subject be what it may, is the freedom of prospect he allows, the entire absence of cant and dogma. He removes many cartloads of rubbish, and leaves open a broad highway. His writings are all unfenced on the side of the future and the possible. Though he does but inadvertently direct our eyes to the open heavens, nevertheless he lets us wander broadly underneath, and shows them to us reflected in innumerable pools and lakes.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

I shall soon be six-and-twenty. Is there anything in the future that can possibly console us for not being always twenty-five?
    George Gordon Noel Byron (1788–1824)

Much that is natural, to the will must yield.
Men manufacture both machine and soul,
And use what they imperfectly control
To dare a future from the taken routes.
    Thom Gunn (b. 1929)
