The flag of the Sakha Republic, in the Russian Federation, is a horizontal four-color. The colors, form the top to bottom stripe, are light blue (3/4 of the flag's width), white (1/16), red (1/16), and green (1/8). The light blue stripe is charged with a white disc in the center. The diameter of the disc is 2/5 of the flag's width.
The disc represents the northern sun. The light blue, white, and green colors stand for the sky, snow, and taiga landscape respectively. The red symbolizes the courage and constancy of the people.
The flag was adopted on October 14, 1992. The proportions are 1:2.
Famous quotes containing the words flag of the, flag and/or republic:
“Swift blazing flag of the regiment,
Eagle with crest of red and gold,
These men were born to drill and die.
Point for them the virtue of slaughter,
Make plain to them the excellence of killing
And a field where a thousand corpses lie.”
—Stephen Crane (18711900)
“Columbus stood in his age as the pioneer of progress and enlightenment. The system of universal education is in our age the most prominent and salutary feature of the spirit of enlightenment, and it is peculiarly appropriate that the schools be made by the people the center of the days demonstration. Let the national flag float over every schoolhouse in the country and the exercises be such as shall impress upon our youth the patriotic duties of American citizenship.”
—Benjamin Harrison (18331901)
“Our constitution works. Our great republic is a government of laws, not of men.”
—Gerald R. Ford (b. 1913)
