The Flag of Podgorica, along with its coat of arms, is a symbol of Podgorica, capital of Montenegro. It is a new city flag, adopted as a symbol of the city in 2006. It is derived from a detail on a new coat of arms. The author is Srđan Marlović.
The layers of urban heritage in this municipality (Doclea and Meteon) were presented by two blue horizontal stripes. Metaphorically, they present the foundation of the present city of Podgorica.
The universal symbol, whose creation was based on stylisation of all recognisable symbols of modern Podgorica that we know today: Nemanja's town, Clock tower, Gorica monument, Gates, Bridges....all those sights were united in one symbol, broken line that was positioned above 2 horizontal stripes.

Famous quotes containing the words flag of and/or flag:
“Swift blazing flag of the regiment,
Eagle with crest of red and gold,
These men were born to drill and die.
Point for them the virtue of slaughter,
Make plain to them the excellence of killing
And a field where a thousand corpses lie.”
—Stephen Crane (18711900)
“Columbus stood in his age as the pioneer of progress and enlightenment. The system of universal education is in our age the most prominent and salutary feature of the spirit of enlightenment, and it is peculiarly appropriate that the schools be made by the people the center of the days demonstration. Let the national flag float over every schoolhouse in the country and the exercises be such as shall impress upon our youth the patriotic duties of American citizenship.”
—Benjamin Harrison (18331901)
