FK Pobeda - History

History

The club was founded in 1941 as Goce Delčev and renamed in 1950 to FK Pobeda. The club plays at the Goce Delčev Stadium (capacity 15,000).

FK Pobeda has been 2 times champion of the Macedonian First League, one time Macedonian Cup winner and has represented Macedonia in 10 terms in the European Cups.

On March 27, 2009, UEFA, the governing body of football in Europe, charged FK Pobeda over match fixing allegations relating to a Champions League qualifying match against FC Pyunik of Armenia in 2004 They were subsequently found guilty and banned from UEFA competitions for eight years. The next season in which they will be eligible to compete is 2017–18.

New formed club FK Viktorija began its history straight from the Macedonian Third League south region in the season 2010/11, resembling the club Pobeda that had been given an 8-year ban by FIFA. FK Viktorija was founded after the two time champion Pobeda was banned by FIFA. The new club resembles very much the old Pobeda who was formed back in 1941. The name Viktorija is a Macedonian transcription of the Latin word "Victoria" which means "Victory", same as the Macedonian word "Pobeda" which means "Victory" as well. They won promotion to the Macedonian Second League and were renamed into FK Pobeda Junior.

Famous quotes containing the word history:

The myth of independence from the mother is abandoned in mid- life as women learn new routes around the mother—both the mother without and the mother within. A mid-life daughter may reengage with a mother or put new controls on care and set limits to love. But whatever she does, her child’s history is never finished.
    Terri Apter (20th century)

America is, therefore the land of the future, where, in the ages that lie before us, the burden of the World’s history shall reveal itself. It is a land of desire for all those who are weary of the historical lumber-room of Old Europe.
    Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel (1770–1831)

Racism is an ism to which everyone in the world today is exposed; for or against, we must take sides. And the history of the future will differ according to the decision which we make.
    Ruth Benedict (1887–1948)
