History
Built in 1876 as part of the development of the Birmingham West Suburban Railway by the Midland Railway, it closed in 1944. The original station building was then leased for commercial uses, in which it remains occupied to this day.
As part of the creation of the Cross-City Line services, the current station opened in 1978. Built with its main entrance on Lee Bank Middleway, the cost of building the station (approximately £300,000), was met by the West Midlands Passenger Transport Executive.
Ticket barriers were installed at the start of 2009, and became operational shortly before the end of April that same year.
The station achieved a milestone in 2009/10 by having over 1 million "entries and exits" as denoted by ticket sales.
