King James II
John Roettier continued to design the dies for this denomination in the reign of King James II. In this reign, the weight of the coins varied between 41.5 and 42.0 grams. The kings' head faces left in this reign, and is surrounded by the inscription, while the obverse is the same as in Charles II's reign except for omitting the interlinked "C"s in the centre of the coin.
The regnal years for this reign are:
1686: | SECVNDO | 1687: | TERTIO | 1688: | QVARTO |

Famous quotes containing the words king and/or james:
“The supreme, the merciless, the destroyer of opposition, the exalted King, the shepherd, the protector of the quarters of the world, the King the word of whose mouth destroys mountains and seas, who by his lordly attack has forced mighty and merciless Kings from the rising of the sun to the setting of the same to acknowledge one supremacy.”
—Ashurnasirpal II (r. 88359 B.C.)
“Smitten as we are with the vision of social righteousness, a God indifferent to everything but adulation, and full of partiality for his individual favorites, lacks an essential element of largeness.”
—William James (18421910)
