Firehawk (roller Coaster)

Firehawk (roller Coaster)

Firehawk is a steel flying roller coaster built by Vekoma at Kings Island in Mason, Ohio. It originally opened at Six Flags Worlds of Adventure on May 26, 2001 under the name X-Flight. After Cedar Fair Entertainment Company purchased the park and renamed it in 2004, they began downsizing it. On November 22, 2006, Geauga Lake park officials announced the ride would be relocated to another park in the Cedar Fair chain. It was later announced that it would reopen at Kings Island under the name Firehawk 2007. It officially opened on May 26, 2007.

At its opening, it was billed as the Midwest's first and only flying coaster, today it retains the record for the area's first flying coaster. The ride lost its "only" record when Superman: Ultimate Flight opened at Six Flags Great America in 2003. Firehawk is identical in layout to Batwing, another Vekoma Flying Dutchman, located at Six Flags America. Additionally, Firehawk was the second Flying Dutchman built by Vekoma after Stealth opened at Paramount's Great America in 2000.
