Since then, acquisitions have constituted 50% of the company. The company's largest acquisition as of April 2008 is the purchase of Scientific-Atlanta, a manufacturer of cable television, telecommunications, and broadband equipment, for US$6.9 billion. The majority of companies acquired by Cisco are based in the United States. A total of 149 companies have been acquired as of March 2011. Most of the acquired companies are related to computer networking, including several LAN switching and Voice over Internet Protocol companies.

Famous quotes containing the words fine, ground and/or networks:

    The white stretch
    of its white beach,
    curved as the moon crescent
or ivory when some fine hand
    chisels it.
    Hilda Doolittle (1886–1961)

The professional celebrity, male and female, is the crowning result of the star system of a society that makes a fetish of competition. In America, this system is carried to the point where a man who can knock a small white ball into a series of holes in the ground with more efficiency than anyone else thereby gains social access to the President of the United States.
    C. Wright Mills (1916–1962)

The community and family networks which helped sustain earlier generations have become scarcer for growing numbers of young parents. Those who lack links to these traditional sources of support are hard-pressed to find other resources, given the emphasis in our society on providing treatment services, rather than preventive services and support for health maintenance and well-being.
    Bernice Weissbourd (20th century)
