Fier - Industry and Tourism

Industry and Tourism

Fier is an important industrial city and is built by the Gjanica tributary of the Seman river, and is surrounded by marshland. With nearby Patos town, it is the centre of the oil, bitumen and chemical industries in Albania. Fier is a convenient place to stay to visit the major Classical sites at nearby Byllis and Apolonia. The population is mixed Orthodox and Muslim (typical of southern Albanian cities). Main roads from the central square lead south to Vlora (35 km/22 mi) and east to the oil and chemical town of Patos (8 km/5.0 mi).

Famous quotes containing the words industry and/or tourism:

I have never yet spoken from a public platform about women in industry that someone has not said, “But things are far better than they used to be.” I confess to impatience with persons who are satisfied with a dangerously slow tempo of progress for half of society in an age which requires a much faster tempo than in the days that “used to be.” Let us use what might be instead of what has been as our yardstick!
    Mary Barnett Gilson (1877–?)

In the middle ages people were tourists because of their religion, whereas now they are tourists because tourism is their religion.
    Robert Runcie (b. 1921)
