The Twins' Lives
The twins both require the use of a wheelchair and are unable to speak, although they both recently acquired electronic speaking aids. They are also subject to persistent and painful muscle spasms which they say are worsened by emotion. It is believed that both will die in their late teens and are using the services of a hospice, though they still live at home with their parents. They are constantly undergoing more tests and studies in an attempt to discover more about the disease and trying to find a cure. Doctors think that over time, there could be more people who are born with Fields Condition, but for now they are simply trying to learn more about it, so that if it becomes more widespread, they will have a head start on it.

Famous quotes containing the word lives:
“Twenty or thirty years ago, in the army, we had a lot of obscure adventures, and years later we tell them at parties, and suddenly we realize that those two very difficult years of our lives have become lumped together into a few episodes that have lodged in our memory in a standardized form, and are always told in a standardized way, in the same words. But in fact that lump of memories has nothing whatsoever to do with our experience of those two years in the army and what it has made of us.”
—Václav Havel (b. 1936)
