Felix Varela High School - Band Program

Band Program

The Band of Mystery is a fairly well known and highly placed high school band, was headed by Mr. Christopher Illa, but now directed by Dr. Lussier. The band is very reputable earning high placement in the district as well as the state, which is large feat because of the fact that it is only a 2A band. In the 2010-2011 school year, the Band of Mystery went to states. The band earned first in semi-finals and third in finals. This program has a reputable jazz band and wind ensemble as well, which both receive 'Superior' overall.

Famous quotes containing the words band and/or program:

What passes for identity in America is a series of myths about one’s heroic ancestors. It’s astounding to me, for example, that so many people really seem to believe that the country was founded by a band of heroes who wanted to be free. That happens not to be true. What happened was that some people left Europe because they couldn’t stay there any longer and had to go someplace else to make it. They were hungry, they were poor, they were convicts.
    James Baldwin (1924–1987)

At Hayes’ General Store, west of the cemetery, hangs an old army rifle, used by a discouraged Civil War veteran to end his earthly troubles. The grocer took the rifle as payment ‘on account.’
—Administration for the State of Con, U.S. public relief program (1935-1943)
