Armed Forces of The Federated Suns

The AFFS is the military branch of the Federated Suns in terms of military strength, the AFFS makes the Federated Suns as one of the most powerful nations in the Inner Sphere. A highly trained, disciplined, and professional force that benefits greatly from technological advances from the New Avalon Institute of Science. The First Princes of House Davion have always had through the Fed Suns history a close bond to the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns. Every heir-apparent is required to serve in the military in order to be eligible for the title of First Prince.

Though the AFFS does not literally rule the Federated Suns, the military has close ties to the ruling Davion family since Charles Davion's presidency in the mid twenty-fourth century. With the rise of Prince Alexander Davion, regarded as the realm's greatest leader, intensified this link by coming to power through a de facto military coup. Though the claim to the throne rested on a solid legal foundation, Alexander Davion could not have made it a reality without strong military backing. Grateful for an end to bitter civil strife, the ordinary people of the Fed Suns venerated both the man and the army that had brought them peace. That near-reverence for the armed forces persists throughout the citizenry of Federated Suns, from the highest nobility to the working class.

With the alliance of the Lyran Commonwealth and the Federated Suns came the integration of both the LCAF and the AFFS into the Armed Forces of the Federated Commonwealth (AFFC). The alliance, short-lived as it was, the AFFC split into its' founding nations armed forces.

Famous quotes containing the words armed, forces, federated and/or suns:

The schoolmaster is abroad! And I trust to him armed with his primer against the soldier in full military array.
    Jeremy Bentham (1748–1832)

In literary circles, the men of trust and consideration, bookmakers, editors, university deans and professors, bishops, too, were by no means men of the largest literary talent, but usually of a low and ordinary intellectuality, with a sort of mercantile activity and working talent. Indifferent hacks and mediocrities tower, by pushing their forces to a lucrative point, or by working power, over multitudes of superior men, in Old as in New England.
    Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803–1882)

The Federated Republic of Europe—the United States of Europe—that is what must be. National autonomy no longer suffices. Economic evolution demands the abolition of national frontiers. If Europe is to remain split into national groups, then Imperialism will recommence its work. Only a Federated Republic of Europe can give peace to the world.
    Leon Trotsky (1879–1940)

Just as there are not two suns in the sky, so a country cannot have two kings.
    Chinese proverb.
