FEBS Journal

FEBS Journal is a scientific journal published by the Federation of European Biochemical Societies (FEBS). Before 2005, this journal was known as the European Journal of Biochemistry, which itself was the new name of Biochemische Zeitschrift that was adopted in 1967. It publishes research in any area of biochemistry, particularly bioinformatics, genomics and proteomics, molecular cell biology and the molecular biology of disease, systems biology and nanoscience. The journal was founded in 1906 by Carl Neuberg who also served as the first editor.

Every issue of FEBS Journal / European Journal of Biochemistry is available online back to the first issue in 1967 on Wiley Online Library. FEBS has made the whole archive free to access online and every issue of the journal is free 1 year after it gets published.

To get access to articles in the most recent issues of FEBS Journal, librarians at universities and research institutions pay for subscriptions or licences through the publisher. Similar to many journals owned by scholarly societies and federations, income generated from FEBS Journal and the other journals of FEBS - FEBS Letters and Molecular Oncology - funds the work of the Federation - fellowships, courses, travel grants, meetings and conferences etc. This info is all on FEBS website.

FEBS Journal awards a prize every year to a young scientist publishing 'the best research article' in the journal. The winner gets €10,000 (euros) cash prize and is invited to give a talk at the Annual FEBS Congress (next one is in in Sevilla in 2011).
