- With three weeks left until his inauguration, President-elect President William Howard Taft arrived back in the United States from his trip to Panama to cheering crowds at New Orleans. After arriving on the cruiser USS North Carolina, Taft boarded the USS Birmingham to sail up the Mississippi River.
