Famous quotes containing the word birds:
“It is not a piece of fine feminine Spitalfields silkbut is of the horrible texture of a fabric that should be woven of ships cables & hausers. A Polar wind blows through it, & birds of prey hover over it. Warn all gentle fastidious people from so much as peeping into the bookon risk of a lumbago & sciatics.”
—Herman Melville (18191891)
“The air deals blows: surely too hard, too often?
No: it is bent on bringing summer down.
Dead leaves desert in thousands, outwards, upwards,
Numerous as birds; but the birds fly away....”
—Philip Larkin (19221986)
“What a fog! Plane been buzzin around overhead for the last half hour. Must be like trying to find your way through the inside of a cow. I never did see such a country. Even the birds are walkin.”
—Dalton Trumbo (19051976)
