Famous quotes containing the word birds:

    Beauty sat bathing by a spring,
    Where fairest shades did hide her;
    The winds blew calm, the birds did sing,
    The cool streams ran beside her.
    My wanton thoughts enticed mine eye
    To see what was forbidden:
    But better memory said Fie;
    So vain desire was chidden—
    Anthony Munday (1553–1633)

    We cannot do without it, and yet we disgrace and vilify the same. It may be compared to a cage, the birds without despair to get in, and those within despair to get out.
    Michel de Montaigne (1533–1592)

    I would that we were, my beloved, white birds on the foam of the sea!
    We tire of the flame of the meteor, before it can fade and flee;
    And the flame of the blue star of twilight, hung low on the rim of the sky,
    Has awaked in our hearts, my beloved, a sadness that may not die.
    William Butler Yeats (1865–1939)
