FAO Schwarz - New York City Flagship Store

New York City Flagship Store

The FAO Schwarz flagship store, located in the General Motors Building at Fifth Avenue and 58th Street in Manhattan, is currently the brand’s only store location. The store includes a concierge and "Personal Shoppers" to help customers find presents, in addition to a notable selection of toys, games, books and displays.

In 2001, the store was redesigned by architect David Rockwell of The Rockwell Group in collaboration with Paul Gregory of Focus Lighting. The FAO Schwarz Fifth Avenue flagship store now features a Grand Hall entrance and award-winning lighting that includes almost 80,000 LED lights mounted on the ceiling above the main atrium space. Each LED light is individually addressable and creates a dynamic light show.

Famous quotes containing the words york, city and/or store:

And you’re too fired up to go to sleep, you sit at the kitchen table. It’s really late, it’s really quiet, you’re tired. Don’t wanna go to bed, though. Going to bed means this was the day. This Feb. 12, this Aug. 3, this Nov. 20 is over and you’re tired and you made some money but it didn’t happen, nothing happened. You got through it and a whole day of your life is over. And all it is—is time to go to bed.
    Claudia Shear, U.S. author. New York Times, p. A21 (September 29, 1993)

Do you know what Agelisas said, when he was asked why the great city of Lacedomonie was not girded with walls? Because, pointing out the inhabitants and citizens of the city, so expert in military discipline and so strong and well armed: “Here,” he said, “are the walls of the city,” meaning that there is no wall but of bones, and that towns and cities can have no more secure nor stronger wall than the virtue of their citizens and inhabitants.
    François Rabelais (1494–1553)

Every third year you shall bring out the full tithe of your produce for that year, and store it within your towns; the Levites, because they have no allotment or inheritance with you, as well as the resident aliens, the orphans, and the widows in your towns, may come and eat their fill so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work that you undertake.
    Bible: Hebrew, Deuteronomy 14:28,29.
