Faculty of Dental Surgery

The Faculty of Dental Surgery of the Royal College of Surgeons of England is an independent UK professional body committed to enabling dental specialists to provide patients with the highest possible standards of practice and care. The Faculty is part of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and is located at the College's headquarters in Lincoln's Inn Fields in London.

The Faculty was established in 1947 to meet the requirement that the training of dental specialists involve the same academic discipline as that demanded for medicine and surgery. Subsequent to the 1946 NHS Act UK dental graduates were required to show evidence of several years' postgraduate training in all aspects of dentistry and to have acquired a recognised postgraduate qualification.

There are two other Faculties of Dental Surgery in the UK, one based at The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the other a part of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow

There is also a Faculty of Dentistry which is a part of The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

Famous quotes containing the words faculty of, faculty, dental and/or surgery:

To write well, to have style ... is to paint. The master faculty of style is therefore the visual memory. If a writer does not see what he describes—countrysides and figures, movements and gestures—how could he have a style, that is originality?
    Rémy De Gourmont (1858–1915)

Truth is his inspirer, and earnestness the polisher of his sentences. He could afford to lose his Sharp’s rifles, while he retained his faculty of speech,—a Sharp’s rifle of infinitely surer and longer range.
    Henry David Thoreau (1817–1862)

[T]hose wholemeal breads ... look hand-thrown, like studio pottery, and are fine if you have all your teeth. But if not, then not. Perhaps the rise ... of the ... factory-made loaf, which may easily be mumbled to a pap betweeen gums, reflects the sorry state of the nation’s dental health.
    Angela Carter (1940–1992)

It is difficult for me to imagine the same dedication to women’s rights on the part of the kind of man who lives in partnership with someone he likes and respects, and the kind of man who considers breast-augmentation surgery self-improvement.
    Anna Quindlen (b. 1952)
