Expo Line (Los Angeles Metro)
The Expo Line is a Los Angeles County Metro Rail light-rail line between Downtown Los Angeles and Santa Monica, California. It is operated and maintained by the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The Expo Line Phase 1 segment from Downtown Los Angeles to the La Cienega Station opened on April 28, 2012. The two remaining Phase 1 stations, the interim terminal Culver City Station and an intermediate Farmdale Station, opened on June 20, 2012.
Construction of Expo Line Phase 2 from Culver City to Downtown Santa Monica started in September 2011 with an expected completion date of 2015. The western terminus will be at the Colorado/4th station in Santa Monica, about half a mile from the Pacific Ocean.
It reuses the right-of-way of the Los Angeles and Independence Railroad / Santa Monica Air Line, which stopped passenger service in 1953. It is the first passenger rail line to serve the Los Angeles Westside since the abandonment of the Pacific Electric Railway's Santa Monica Air Line.
The 15.3-mile-long east–west route follows most of the original railroad right-of-way along Exposition Boulevard (the line's namesake), except for the 2.5-mile-long easternmost segment between the University of Southern California and Downtown Los Angeles, and the one mile long westernmost segment in Santa Monica along Colorado Avenue.
