Experience Corps

Experience Corps is a nonprofit organization that engages adults 50 and older as literacy tutors for struggling students in public schools. Currently, Experience Corps has 2,000 members working in schools in 19 cities around the country. Experience Corps members work primarily as reading tutors for elementary school students.

In each of the sites, Experience Corps is hosted by a local community organization which recruits and trains members with the support of the Experience Corps national office. Experience Corps members who work at least 15 hours per week receive a small stipend to help defray the costs associated with volunteering.

Famous quotes containing the words experience and/or corps:

What we men share is the experience of having been raised by women in a culture that stopped our fathers from being close enough to teach us how to be men, in a world in which men were discouraged from talking about our masculinity and questioning its roots and its mystique, in a world that glorified masculinity and gave us impossibly unachievable myths of masculine heroics, but no domestic models to teach us how to do it.
    Frank Pittman (20th century)

The Washington press corps thinks that Julie Nixon Eisenhower is the only member of the Nixon Administration who has any credibility—and, as one journalist put it, this is not to say that anyone believes what she is saying but simply that people believe she believes what she is saying ... it is almost as if she is the only woman in America over the age of twenty who still thinks her father is exactly what she thought he was when she was six.
    Nora Ephron (b. 1941)
