Ewok Celebration

"Ewok Celebration" (originally known as Varner's Vindication) is a musical theme recurring in the ending of the Star Wars film Return of the Jedi. It was composed by John Williams while his son Joseph Williams wrote the lyrics. It is the song sung during the celebration of the Ewoks on Endor with the Rebel Alliance pilots after the destruction of the Death Star II.

In 1983, Meco recorded a version of the song "Ewok Celebration" which reached #60 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In the 1997 edition of the movie (see List of changes in Star Wars re-releases), a different song (Victory Celebration) without lyrics replaces the original version. As with virtually all changes made to the original movies for the new editions, some fans were not happy with the change of song. It does not appear on newer editions of the soundtrack recordings, and is available only in an obscure box set. The song, however, is used in several Star Wars video games released after the special editions came out, such as Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy and Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike.

The song appears in an episode of the sitcom Spaced; the producers could not acquire the rights to use the original recording, so Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg performed and recorded their own version.

The song has been covered by the rock band The Solids, and by Parry Gripp.

Famous quotes containing the word celebration:

What, to the American slave, is your Fourth of July? I answer: A day that reveals to him, more than all other days in the year, the gross injustice and cruelty to which he is the constant victim. To him your celebration is a sham.
    Frederick Douglass (c.1817–1895)
