International E-road network
European route E 87 is part of the United Nations international E-road network. It is the easternmost north-south "reference road", running from Odessa (Ukraine), Tulcea (Romania), Constanţa (Romania), Varna (Bulgaria) south through Burgas (Bulgaria) via Çanakkale to Antalya (Turkey).
Famous quotes containing the words european and/or route:
“Of course, in the reality of history, the Machiavellian view which glorifies the principle of violence has been able to dominate. Not the compromising conciliatory politics of humaneness, not the Erasmian, but rather the politics of vested power which firmly exploits every opportunity, politics in the sense of the Principe, has determined the development of European history ever since.”
—Stefan Zweig (18811942)
“A route differs from a road not only because it is solely intended for vehicles, but also because it is merely a line that connects one point with another. A route has no meaning in itself; its meaning derives entirely from the two points that it connects. A road is a tribute to space. Every stretch of road has meaning in itself and invites us to stop. A route is the triumphant devaluation of space, which thanks to it has been reduced to a mere obstacle to human movement and a waste of time.”
—Milan Kundera (b. 1929)
