Eugene V. Clark - Resignation

Resignation

Monsignor Clark resigned on August 11, 2005 as rector of St. Patrick's Cathedral in response to allegations in the press of adultery with his secretary Laura DiFillipo. He strenuously denied the allegations for the rest of his life. DiFillipo's husband had been seeking to divorce his wife and made video and photographs he collected widely available to news media. None of the allegations of impropriety appear to have been proven.

Earlier in his life, Monsignor Clark was a high school teacher at Cardinal Spellman High School in the Bronx, New York. In 1999 and 2000 he taped for the Catholic Eternal Word Television Network a series of programs titled Relationships which made Clark better known outside of the Archdiocese of New York.

Famous quotes containing the word resignation:

Resignation, not mystic, not detached, but resignation open- eyed, conscious, and informed by love, is the only one of our feelings for which it is impossible to become a sham.
    Joseph Conrad (1857–1924)

How could a man be satisfied with a decision between such alternatives and under such circumstances? No more than he can be satisfied with his hat, which he’s chosen from among such shapes as the resources of the age offer him, wearing it at best with a resignation which is chiefly supported by comparison.
George Eliot [Mary Ann (or Marian)
