Marathi is the oldest of the regional literatures in Indo-Aryan languages, dating from about 1000 AD.

There are about 30,000 speakers of the Marathi language (मराठी Marāṭhī) in Kerala. Most Marathi-speakers in Kerala were descendants of administrators and civil servants who migrated from Tamil Nadu's Tanjore district during the 19th century. Thirteen of Travancore's Diwans from the modern Travancore period ( 1811- 1947) belonged to this community. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travancore
