Ethiopia National Football Team

The Ethiopia national football team represents Ethiopia in association football and is controlled by the Ethiopian Football Federation, the governing body for football in Ethiopia. The team has been representing Ethiopia in regional, continental, and international competitions since its founding in 1943. The Walya Antelopes, as they are commonly referred, play their home game at Addis Ababa Stadium located in the capital city of Addis Ababa. They are currently ranked 118th in the world according to the FIFA World Rankings and 33rd in CAF. The team is currently lead by head coach Sewnet Bishaw who has been at the helm since November 2011. Under Bishaw, the national team succeeded in qualifying for the 2013 African Cup of Nations after a 31 year absence.

It was one of only three teams (along with Egypt and Sudan) to participate in the inaugural Africa Cup of Nations in 1957. Ethiopia won the competition in 1962 when it was the host, but success has been elusive since the end of the 1960s.

Famous quotes containing the words national, football and/or team:

I came here for one thing only, to try to help national Ireland—and if there is no such thing in existence then the sooner I pay for my illusions the better.
    Roger Casement (1864–1916)

In football they measure forty-yard sprints. Nobody runs forty yards in basketball. Maybe you run the ninety-four feet of the court; then you stop, not on a dime, but on Miss Liberty’s torch. In football you run over somebody’s face.
    Donald Hall (b. 1928)

Imagination is a valuable asset in business and she has a sister, Understanding, who also serves. Together they make a splendid team and business problems dissolve and the impossible is accomplished by their ministrations.... Imagination concerning the world’s wants and the individual’s needs should be the Alpha and Omega of self-education.
    Alice Foote MacDougall (1867–1945)
