Equatorial College School

Equatorial College School, also known as ECS, is a private secondary school in the Ibanda District of Uganda. It was founded in 2002 by the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Robert Kamasaka, and the current Headmaster is Sebastian Bumbakare. It maintains strong links with its sister school, University College School in London, from which it receives funds, resources and a steady stream of gap year students. It also has links with Kingston University.

The ECS is a mixed school where the pupils are aged 13-19 and it has a total of 470 students. The school teaches traditional subjects, such as maths, english and science and pupils who attend here, achieve some of the highest exam results in the region. Here, girls are given equal opportunities to the boys.

Fees are between £20-£50 a year which includes daily meals, and if boarding is required, these fees are doubled.

Famous quotes containing the words college and/or school:

No girl who is going to marry need bother to win a college degree; she just naturally becomes a “Master of Arts” and a “Doctor of Philosophy” after catering to an ordinary man for a few years.
    Helen Rowland (1875–1950)

Dissonance between family and school, therefore, is not only inevitable in a changing society; it also helps to make children more malleable and responsive to a changing world. By the same token, one could say that absolute homogeneity between family and school would reflect a static, authoritarian society and discourage creative, adaptive development in children.
    Sara Lawrence Lightfoot (20th century)
