Current Bishop
On June 7, 2003, the diocese elected its current bishop, the Right Reverend Gene Robinson, the first openly gay bishop consecrated in the Anglican Communion.
Robinson has announced his intention to retire in 2013, at 65. His successor is A. Robert Hirschfeld, who was elected bishop coadjutor on May 19, 2012, and consecrated bishop in Concord on August 4, 2012. Hirschfeld will serve with Robinson until Robinson's formal retirement in January 2013.

“Gradually the village murmur subsided, and we seemed to be embarked on the placid current of our dreams, floating from past to future as silently as one awakes to fresh morning or evening thoughts.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Peace, woman, Mr. Crawley said, addressing her at last. The bishop jumped out of his chair at hearing the wife of his bosom called a woman. But he jumped rather in admiration than in anger.”
