Enthalpy of Vaporization - Physical Model For Vaporization

Physical Model For Vaporization

A simple physical model for the liquid-gas phase transformation has been proposed recently. It is suggested that the energy required to free an atom from the liquid is equivalent to the energy needed to overcome the surface resistance of the liquid. The model allows calculating the latent heat by multiplying the maximum surface area covering an atom (Fig. 1) with the surface tension and the number of atoms in the liquid. The calculated latent heat of vaporization values for the investigated 45 elements agrees well with experiments.

Famous quotes containing the words physical, model and/or vaporization:

The entire construct of the “medical model” of “mental illness”Mwhat is it but an analogy? Between physical medicine and psychiatry: the mind is said to be subject to disease in the same manner as the body. But whereas in physical medicine there are verifiable physiological proofs—in damaged or affected tissue, bacteria, inflammation, cellular irregularity—in mental illness alleged socially unacceptable behavior is taken as a symptom, even as proof, of pathology.
    Kate Millett (b. 1934)

One of the most important things we adults can do for young children is to model the kind of person we would like them to be.
    Carol B. Hillman (20th century)

On the vaporization and the centralization of the Self. All is there.
    Charles Baudelaire (1821–1867)
