Endemic Birds of New Zealand - Endemic Bird Areas

Endemic Bird Areas

Birdlife International has defined the following Endemic Bird Areas (EBAs) in New Zealand:

  • Auckland Islands
  • Chatham Islands
  • North Island of New Zealand
  • South Island of New Zealand

In addition the following are classified as secondary areas:

  • Antipodes Islands
  • Snares Islands and Stewart Island/Rakiura islets

Secondary areas have at least one restricted-range bird species, but do not meet the criteria for EBAs.

Famous quotes containing the words bird and/or areas:

    The caged bird sings
    with a fearful trill
    of things unknown
    but longed for still
    and his tune is heard
    on the distant hill
    for the caged bird
    sings of freedom.
    Maya Angelou (b. 1928)

The ambiguous, gray areas of authority and responsibility between parents and teachers exacerbate the distrust between them. The distrust is further complicated by the fact that it is rarely articulated, but usually remains smoldering and silent.
    Sara Lawrence Lightfoot (20th century)
