The Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center opened in July 2001 and is located near the shore of Thompson's Lake between Thompson's Lake State Park and John Boyd Thacher State Park in New York's Albany County (USA).
Exhibits and displays include a geologic model of the Helderberg Escarpment, a live honeybee observation hive, bird viewing area, fossils, furs and other hands-on collections. Trails for hiking and skiing lead from the nature center to the lake, through woodlands and fields. The center offers educational programs for school groups, youth organizations, clubs and the general public.
Famous quotes containing the words nature and/or center:
“The wonderful purity of nature at this season is a most pleasing fact.... In the bare fields and tinkling woods, see what virtue survives. In the coldest and bleakest places, the warmest charities still maintain a foothold.”
—Henry David Thoreau (18171862)
“Louise Bryant: Im sorry if you dont believe in mutual independence and free love and respect.
Eugene ONeill: Dont give me a lot of parlor socialism that you learned in the village. If you were mine, I wouldnt share you with anybody or anything. It would be just you and me. Youd be at the center of it all. You know it would feel a lot more like love than being left alone with your work.”
—Warren Beatty (b. 1937)
