Elo Rating System - Applications Apart From Gaming

Applications Apart From Gaming

The Elo rating system has been used in a crowdsourcing application for determining best quality photographs. A company called Brilliant Arc has created the "Keep/Toss" game. Two photographs are presented and workers in Amazon's Mechanical Turk simply select which photograph they believe is the better photograph. Three votes are cast for each photograph and an Elo score is determined for all photographs. The photographs with a score above a certain threshold are then selected for further processing. The results have been well received.

Additionally, the Elo rating system has been exploited in soft biometrics. Soft biometrics concerns the identification of individuals using human descriptions. Comparative descriptions were utilized alongside the Elo rating system to provide robust and discriminative 'relative measurements', permitting accurate identification.

Famous quotes containing the word gaming:

Sir, I do not call a gamester a dishonest man; but I call him an unsocial man, an unprofitable man. Gaming is a mode of transferring property without producing any intermediate good.
