Elliptic Divisibility Sequence - General Recursion

General Recursion

A fundamental property of elliptic divisibility sequences is that they satisfy the general recursion relation

 W_{n+m}W_{n-m}W_r^2 = W_{n+r}W_{n-r}W_m^2 - W_{m+r}W_{m-r}W_n^2 \quad\text{for all}\quad n > m > r.

(This formula is often applied with r = 1 and W1 = 1.)

Famous quotes containing the word general:

The first general store opened on the ‘Cold Saturday’ of the winter of 1833 ... Mrs. Mary Miller, daughter of the store’s promoter, recorded in a letter: ‘Chickens and birds fell dead from their roosts, cows ran bellowing through the streets’; but she failed to state what effect the freeze had on the gala occasion of the store opening.
