Eliot Wigginton - Guilty Plea

Guilty Plea

In 1992, Wigginton pleaded guilty to one count of non-aggravated child molestation of a 10-year-old boy. He received a one-year jail sentence, and 19 years of probation. http://www.nytimes.com/1992/11/13/us/foxfire-book-teacher-admits-child-molestation.html He admitted the molestation rather than face 20 accusers of his misdeeds. Required to leave the Foxfire project, he moved to Florida. Wiggington is required to be registered in Florida as a sex offender. http://offender.fdle.state.fl.us/offender/flyer.do?personId=8998

Famous quotes containing the words guilty and/or plea:

The difference between guilt and shame is very clear—in theory. We feel guilty for what we do. We feel shame for what we are. A person feels guilt because he did something wrong. A person feels shame because he is something wrong. We may feel guilty because we lied to our mother. We may feel shame because we are not the person our mother wanted us to be.
Lewis B. Smedes, U.S. psychologist, educator. Shame and Grace: Healing the Shame We Don’t Deserve, ch. 2, Harper (1993)

    If weakness may excuse,
    What murtherer, what traitor, parricide,
Incestuous, sacrilegious, but may plead it?
All wickedness is weakness: that plea therefore
With God or man will gain thee no remission.
    John Milton (1608–1674)
