Elections in Scotland - European Parliament

European Parliament

In 1999, a Scotland-wide constituency replaced 8 first-past-the-post constituencies, which were used in the elections between 1979 and 1994: which returned 8 MEPS under the d'Hondt method of party-list proportional representation system. Since then, the number of MEPs returned by Scotland has been reduced twice more to seven in (2004) and then to six in (2009).

Elected candidates are shown in bold. Brackets indicate the number of votes per seat won.

Famous quotes containing the words european and/or parliament:

Being human signifies, for each one of us, belonging to a class, a society, a country, a continent and a civilization; and for us European earth-dwellers, the adventure played out in the heart of the New World signifies in the first place that it was not our world and that we bear responsibility for the crime of its destruction.
    Claude Lévi-Strauss (b. 1908)

He felt that it would be dull times in Dublin, when they should have no usurping government to abuse, no Saxon Parliament to upbraid, no English laws to ridicule, and no Established Church to curse.
    Anthony Trollope (1815–1882)
