Latest Election
The 2008 Constituent Assembly election transitioned Nepal from a monarchy to a parliamentary republic and gave an overwhelming victory to the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), ostensibly ending the protracted civil war. Although acts of violence occurred during the pre-electoral period, election observers noted the elections themselves were markedly peaceful and “well-carried out."

Famous quotes containing the words latest and/or election:
“The new supplants the old. Yet mens minds are stuffed with outworn bunk. Educating the young in the latest findings of authorities and scholars in the social sciences is important. It is equally important to devise ways and means for aiding the middle-aged and old to reexamine hang-over unscientific doctrines and ideas in the light of recent discovery and research.”
—Mary Barnett Gilson (1877?)
“Last evening attended Croghan Lodge International Order of Odd Fellows. Election of officers. Chosen Noble Grand. These social organizations have a number of good results. All who attend are educated in self-government. This in a marked way. They bind society together. The well-to-do and the poor should be brought together as much as possible. The separation into classescastesis our danger. It is the danger of all civilizations.”
—Rutherford Birchard Hayes (18221893)
