Eleanor, Duchess of Gloucester - Children

Children

According to Douglas Richardson's Magna Carta ancestry written in 2005 and revised in 2011, Arthur and Antigone were the illegitimate children of Humphrey, Duke of Gloucester and an "unknown mistress or mistresses", so Eleanor's children may have been:

  • Arthur Plantagenet (d. 1447),
  • Antigone Plantagenet, who married Henry Grey, 2nd Earl of Tankerville, Lord of Powys (c. 1419–1450) and then John d'Amancier.

Famous quotes containing the word children:

No man should bring children into the world who is unwilling to persevere to the end in their nature and education.
    Plato (c. 427–347 B.C.)

Affection, indulgence, and humor alike are powerless against the instinct of children to rebel. It is essential to their minds and their wills as exercise is to their bodies. If they have no reasons, they will invent them, like nations bound on war. It is hard to imagine families limp enough always to be at peace. Wherever there is character there will be conflict. The best that children and parents can hope for is that the wounds of their conflict may not be too deep or too lasting.

Always and everywhere children take an active role in the construction and acquisition of learning and understanding. To learn is a satisfying experience, but also, as the psychologist Nelson Goodman tells us, to understand is to experience desire, drama, and conquest.
