El Greco Apartments

El Greco Apartments is a historic 12-unit, Spanish Revival style apartment building located in the Fairfax district of Los Angeles. The building was built in 1929 as one of the original buildings in the Westwood Village section of Los Angeles. Located in the heart of Westwood, the building was the home of film celebrities, including Erich von Stroheim, Michael Curtiz and Joel McCrea. In the 1980s, the owner planned to demolish the building to erect a condominium building. In response to tenant protests, the owner agreed to pay to have the building moved to another location. The building was ultimately moved to the Fairfax district where it was converted to low-income housing for senior citizens.

Famous quotes containing the word greco:

In art, one idea is as good as another. If one takes the idea of trembling, for instance, all of a sudden most art starts to tremble. Michelangelo starts to tremble. El Greco starts to tremble. All the Impressionists start to tremble.
    Willem De Kooning (b. 1904)
