Ekta Shakti

Ekta Shakti (United Force) is a regional political party in Haryana, India, founded in 2004. The party president is Virender Verma, a former government employee. Verma is the son of Shiv Ram Verma, who was a member of the erstwhile Bharatiya Jana Sangh. Verma bases his political movement amongst a people called Ror in the Indian caste system. Verma claims that the Rors are related to the Marathas, and using this Maratha identity he was initially able to win some support from the community. Verma builds his political discourse on the accusation that northern Haryana has been discriminated against by politicians from western Haryana.

Verma was accused of having organized party activities whilst still in government service (which is illegal).

In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections the party fielded three candidates from northern Haryana. They got 13 022, 82 430 and 31 202 votes. In the 2009 lok sabha election the party fielded candidates from karnal loksabha seat maratha virender verma (B.S.P PARTY) got around 228352 votes. He was in 2nd position after congress party candidates Dr. Arvind sharma.

Ekta Shakti party has been merged into B.J.P. The BJP-HJC alliance in the state got a major boost when the Ekta Shakti Party, floated by Maratha Virender Verma, formally merged into the BJP. The announcement of the merger was made at a rally organised at Jhanjhari village recently.

POLITICAL VIEW

Ekta Shakti will win 65 seats, claims Verma The people of Haryana have decided to oust the regime of the three Lals in the next elections in the state. This was claimed by bureaucrat-turned-politician Varinder Verma president of the Ekta Shakti, while addressing a rally here today. Declaring that the party would contest the Assembly poll in all 90 constituencies, he demanded that the government issue a white paper on the activities undertaken by the INLD government.

Mr Verma claimed that the Ekta Shakti would win 65 seats as the Congress, the BJP, the INLD and the Haryana Vikas Party had lost their base in the state. He said if the party came to power, house tax, water tax and form 38 would be abolished. He said the party would enhance old-age pension to Rs 500 per month. He expressed concern that the rate of poplar trees had gone down from Rs 400 per quintal to Rs 100 per quintal.

Mr Verma blamed all previous governments of Haryana for not completing the SYL canal. He said if the Ekta Shakti came to power, its first priority would be to complete the canal.
