Edward Ball (businessman)

Edward Gresham Ball (March 21, 1888 – June 24, 1981) was an American businessman. He was powerful figure in business and politics in Florida for decades, despite the fact that he never held public office and did not own the assets he controlled. He worked for and with his brother-in-law, Alfred I. du Pont for nine years before running the Alfred I. duPont Testamentary Trust's businesses by himself for another 46 years. He led the St. Joe Company to become a major player in several industries in Florida.

Famous quotes containing the words edward and/or ball:

    Some have too much, yet still do crave;
    I little have, and seek no more.
    They are but poor, though much they have,
    And I am rich with little store.
    They poor, I rich; they beg, I give;
    They lack, I leave; they pine, I live.
    —Sir Edward Dyer (c. 1540–1607)

    Any balance we achieve between adult and parental identities, between children’s and our own needs, works only for a time—because, as one father says, “It’s a new ball game just about every week.” So we are always in the process of learning to be parents.
