Eduardo D. Sontag - Work

Work

His work in control theory led to the introduction of the concept of input to state stability (ISS), a stability theory notion for nonlinear systems, and control-Lyapunov functions. Many of the subsequent results were proved in collaboration with his student Yuan Wang and with David Angeli. In systems biology, Sontag introduced together with David Angeli the concept of input/output monotone system. In theory of computation, he proved the first results on computational complexity in nonlinear controllability, and introduced together with his student Hava Siegelmann a new approach to analog computation and super-Turing computing.

Famous quotes containing the word work:

[My early stories] are the work of a living writer whom I know in a sense, but can never meet.
    Elizabeth Bowen (1899–1973)

Only as we live, think, feel, and work outside the home, do we become humanly developed, civilized, socialized.
    Charlotte Perkins Gilman (1860–1935)

Work is an essential part of being alive. Your work is your identity. It tells you who you are. It’s gotten so abstract. People don’t work for the sake of working. They’re working for a car, a new house, or a vacation. It’s not the work itself that’s important to them. There’s such a joy in doing work well.
Kay Stepkin, U.S. baker. As quoted in Working, book 8, by Studs Terkel (1973)
